Spravato®
What is Spravato?
Spravato® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray used to treat adults with depression that hasn’t improved with traditional medications. It works differently than standard antidepressants and is administered in-office under medical supervision.
Who is Spravato for?
Spravato may be a good option for adults who have tried antidepressants without enough relief and are experiencing treatment-resistant depression. We’ll help determine if it’s the right fit during your consultation.
How is it different from antidepressants?
Most antidepressants are taken daily and can take weeks to work. Spravato works differently in the brain and may help reduce symptoms more quickly for some patients.
What happens during a session?
You’ll relax in a comfortable, private setting in our North Hills office. Spravato is self-administered as a nasal spray under the supervision of your provider, and you’ll stay with us for monitoring afterward to ensure your safety and comfort.
How long does each appointment take?
Plan for at least 2 hours in the office. Under the Spravato REMS program, you’re monitored by our staff for at least 2 hours after each dose, until you’re ready to leave. Arrange a ride home: you can’t drive or operate machinery on treatment day, until the next day after a restful sleep.
How often are Spravato treatments?
At our practice, induction is twice weekly for 4 weeks. Maintenance is once weekly in weeks 5–8, then from week 9 either weekly or every 2 weeks, as your provider recommends. See the official Prescribing Information and Medication Guide.
When can I schedule a Spravato session?
Spravato sessions run between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The latest session start time is 4:00 PM. Each session is about 2 hours; please arrive 15 minutes before your start time. Consultations and treatments are in person only at our North Hills office.
Can I drive myself home?
No. Per the FDA label, you should not drive or operate machinery until the next day after a restful sleep, so please arrange a ride home after every treatment.
Does insurance cover Spravato?
Many plans cover Spravato. We’re in-network for Spravato with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan; call (910) 273-7572 to confirm your benefits. Our team verifies your benefits and handles prior authorization.
